Anna Greene-Smith
I am drawn to nature as the subject of my work because of its power to lift a person out of his or her life's complexities into its own simple self. Artistic expressions of nature are a way to share that power with others. When I look at the evening sky as the last light is leaving, I see colors almost unbelievable for their intensity and brilliance, and I experience being a part of the magnificence of something huge. In those moments of sublimity, life seems comprehensible, and I know where I stand. I can take those experiences and integrate them into myself. The peaceful clarity that comes with the fulfillment of having a place, of being a part of something so exquisite, is what I seek to give the viewer of my paintings. It is also what I would like teach others, through their own creative projects, to attain.
